A HEALTHY AND HAPPY 2018 FROM GLYN AND ALLAN…DANDY COMEDY
Sorry for the belated greetings, folks. Can’t offer any real excuse except Winter Blues. Hard to get going. Anything seems preferable to getting anything meaningful done. The list of jobs is as far as it gets. Some of you may have ventured on to the Facebook page and already be up to date with the “Diary of 2 Very Boring Elderly People who despite disbelief still go out to entertain other people (who are easily pleased) “.
First 2 months of this year have flown past in a heady cloud of Bacon Baps at Dunelms, Toast at Costa and afternoon naps. We did fit in a week in Gran Canaria….where the average rainfall for January is 3 days in the month…we had 4 of them! Himself aka The Hub has had to come to terms with becoming 70. It helped that we were with friends Pauline and Roger in a Music Bar in Meloneras and pretending we could still dance like 16 year olds. The following morning told a different story! Us Baby Boomers find it hard to accept growing older with anything like good grace.
We have already done several gigs so I will list them for the record and scatter a few photos when possible.
7th WALMLEY GOLF CLUB for a private joint Birthday celebration. Lovely afternoon. Thank you to all.
18th THE BEACON VILLAGE, LICHFIELD. Good to be back here among so many old friends.
20th SUTTON COLDFIELD GOLDIESLEY CLUB. Splendid night made even better by Sausage and Mash and good company.
24th BURNTWOOD MEMORIAL HALL STARLIGHT SHOW for our friends Mike and Carol with Debbie Miles.
9th SUTTON ARTS THEATRE. Great night. Lovely to see so many friends who had come along to support us.
10th HAMMERWICH BOWLS AND CRICKET CLUB with our friends ETERNITY DUO aka Nicky and Cliff. Another great night with our friends here who have come along to join in the fun for so many years. Thanks to Ronnie for asking us along and for Allan’s Present which fell into the category “Gifts for the Old and Infirm”.
11th WHITTINGTON CHURCH HALL. Thanks to Margo and Alistair and the team for all of their hard work again. Brilliant afternoon as always. Then back home and straight out again to watch Vivo and friends at Knowle British Legion. Felt very fragile Monday morning.
16th BEAUDESERT GOLF CLUB. Our first visit here….but we are returning next year. Thank you to Grace for the invitation. Great crowd.
17th NEWPORT BOWLS CLUB. This is about our 10th year visiting the Club. They are friends now after so many years. Love them. Incredible amounts of money raised again for Cancer Research and for Alzheimers.
23rd LULLINGTON VILLAGE HALL. Out to South Derbyshire to the sweet village of Lullington again. Wonderful meal and a warm welcome. Thank you so much everyone involved.
24th KINGS NORTON GOLF CLUB ….BUDDY HOLLY TRIBUTE NIGHT with MIKE BERRY AND THE OUTLAWS. This again is about the 10th year. Mike Berry is looking and sounding better than ever…and we saw him for the first time when we were about 16. Big thanks to Dave and Eve Slater who organise this event each year and get a full house each time. Mike and the band come ome onstage and the dance floor fills mmediately. Fabulous night. Our spot was somewhat marred for me by my severe Migraine attack. Allan and his bloody striped jacket! We had to leave as soon as we had finished. Already booked in for next year. Meanwhile you can see Mike on the Sixties Show touring the theatres.
Much catching up to do as I cast my mind back to the gigs we did in March.
First Friday saw us at the REDHOUSE ALBRIGHTON . This was an event orgnised by Yvonne Riley and her team to raise money for the Lifeboats. Great turnout and especially nice to catch up with my old boss from Wodensborough High School…Head of Science…Ken Aston. This had been postponed from earlier when we had the big Snow in. Thanks to all for giving it a go.
9TH March and we are at a new venue for us. This is the village of ELLERDINE. What a lovely surprise when we arrive and find an old friend from folk club days waiting for us. Great to catch up Gary and to meet Lorraine. The people despite bad weather were very bouncy and keen to enjoy themselves. Thanks for a great night. You are all such good sports
Saturday night and we are back with our friends at NEWCHURCH VILLAGE HALL. We have been coming here a few years now. Great to catch up with them all again. Many thanks to Rachel and Gordon.
Tonight we are in SOLIHULL for the LIONS DISTRICT CONVENTION. Bit of a strange one….apparently it had been advertised as a Pigeon Fanciers Gathering to fit in with a Black Country Theme. Bit disconcerting to have the front table all wearing rubber pigeon heads!
Bad weather tonight. Snow on the ground, freezing cold but the people of WOODSEAVES braved it all and sat in their coats all night. The Wartime spirit was recaptured and brought us all together. We had a great night. Thanks to all.
Long journey for us tonight. Over at BRIMFIELD for LITTLE HEREFORD and BRIMFIELD BOWLS CLUB. Luckily the weather was okay and we had a good crowd.
Nice and local tonight at a very familiar place…ELFORD VILLAGE HALL. A while since we have done this for the village itself. Good to see so many old friends turn up. So annoyed I had lost my voice…but thems the breaks!
Back at BRIMFIELD tonight for Carole Powell and the BRIMFIELD AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY. A tense time waiting for a call from Carol’e husband concerning one of the cows and a difficult birth. Great folk.
Tonight we are working back at HAMMERWICH CRICKET CLUB for a lady who is holding her 80th Birthday party here. We are with our good friends ETERNITY DUO. Lovely night.
Monday means we are over at ALDRIDGE MASONIC LODGE and this is another gig that had to be postponed during ths snowy weather just after Christmas. They still went ahead and had the Christmas meal and all the deccys.
BIRLINGHAM VILLAGE HALL….What a beautiful village this is. We had a good walk round and it was a lovely night. Thanks to all for making us welcome.
Saturday 21st and we are out on a glorious sunny day in the Cotswolds to entertain at a Golden Wedding Anniversary. We have known Val and Chris quite some time now and we know most of their friends. What a wonderful time we all had. Lovely people.
Back to the homeland tonight. We are at WEDNESBURY MASONIC HALL. This is the day when the big water mains had burst just down the road..but everything went ahead and they did the soup and coffee with bottled water. I knew quite a few of the people there. Loved it.
Tonight we are at a familiar venue. We over over at PEOPLETON, Worcester. John and June have been inviting us over there for many years. A lot of money has been raised during those years and on this night the audience raised the grand sum of £1450…some towards the upkeep of the village hall and £900 towards the work of ST. JOHN’S HOSPICE. Well done to all. Great to see so many friends.
Great to be back tonight at ALCESTER UNIONIST CLUB. This is only our second time here but the people seem like old friends. Thy make us so very welcome. Thanks again for a great night.
Saturday 5th May and we are appearing with a friend of ours from the Black Country Night Out Tour…Mr. Peter Lee. We are over at BREWOOD JUBILEE HALL for the BOWLS CLUB. Great to see friends from folk club days..from Brewood and Bridgnorth etc. Thank you all so much for coming. It was a great night.
Tonight we are at HALL GREEN HOME GUARD but we are performing for a Masonic Lodge. Strange arrangement in that we had to set up our P.A. in the Bowling Alley. We made sure we hid the bowls before we started. Didn’t look a promising venue but the crowd were lovely. Would have been even better if the Staff there after serving the meal had not sat at the back and talked loudly through our second half!
Heading out to STRATFORD RACECOURSE. Lovely group of people who own ROMA Motorhomes. Mostly from the south of England but they have learned to understand us by now. Thanks to all for a good night.
End of the month and a beautiful day as we head over to ALDRIDGE to ANCHORAGE 55 Club for their special event. It is our second time here. Good to catch up with them all again.
Busy day today. We are spending the afternoon with CANNOCK WOOD AND GENTLESHAW LADIES FLOWER ARRANGING CLUB. We did this gig a couple of years ago. They really are a great audience and are so receptive. Thanks to Sue for inviting us again and thanks to the ladies for being fantastic .
Later on the same day…after a brief nap we are back on the road en route to WALMLEY GOLF CLUB. We are here to help celebrate Roger’s 70th Birthday along with his family and friends. He looks incredibly young. Thanks to all for making it so easy for us and especially to Roger and Carol for having faith in us. They are a lovely couple.
THE GIGS LISTED ABOVE ARE ALL ON THE FACEBOOK LINK PAGE ALONG WITH JOKES AND MORE PHOTOGRAPHS.
