Welcome to The Dandy Diary 2021
Life is starting to get back to normal now in small ways. We have stopped glaring at each other in Supermarkets unless somebody rams their trolley into our legs.
The Entertainment Business is slow to recover. So many restrictions still in place make it difficult to organise events. One cough can still clear the room. At the beginning of the year there was no singing or dancing. Masks were still mandatory. It was hard to know if people were laughing or pulling a face. Kitchens couldn’t be used in Village Halls or Community Centres. Social distancing was still in place in venues. Our first row always move back…but that’s because Allan has been known to spit!
As the year wore on some of the restrictions were lifted but audiences are still finding it hard, in some cases, to make the return to live entertainment. So many are still sitting at home watching Midsommer Murders. Gigs are being re-scheduled all the time. Sadly many artists have given up and sold their equipment to pay bills. Some have taken Government advice which back then was to re-train to get a proper job. Many Theatres have closed. Many venues have closed.
Entertainers are having to be very flexible..taking bookings…losing bookings, re-arranging plans. For many performers the only guaranteed work at the present is at Holiday Camps mostly down south.
DANDY have done some gigs and have gigs in the diary for 2021/22. Many thanks to all of you who have kept the faith and have come along to see us.
We all need to get back together to share some happy experiences. There is nothing like shared laughter to create a bond. While we need to be careful we need to remember we are here to live. We can’t put our lives on hold for ever.
